Where will the boat launch from and what are the directions to the dock?

Normally I leave from Bolivar Yacht Basin Bait Camp. If you are coming from the Houston proper you will need to take 45 South and take the first exit after crossing the causeway. Turn left on Industrial and go to HWY 87 and turn left toward the ferry. Take the ferry across the ship channel to Bolivar peninsula. Proceed from the ferry landing 6.5 miles on Hwy 87 and turn left on Boyt Road just past the water tank on the left side of the road. Follow the signs to Bolivar Yacht Basin Bait Camp.

Or if you prefer to go via the seawall, I-45 South, I-45 South becomes Broadway Street, stay straight to go onto Seawall Blvd./FM 3005/TX-87, turn slight left onto Ferry Road/2nd street/TX-87 N. Continue to follow TX-87 N., stay straight to go onto Ferry Road/TX-87 North. Stay straight to go onto Bolivar ferry, Bolivar ferry becomes TX-87 after you cross the ship channel. Turn left onto Boyt Road, turn left onto Boyt Road/South Road. Continue to follow Boyt Road to the yacht basin.   "MAP"

If we launch from a different location I will phone and tell you a day or two before your scheduled trip and give you directions.

What is supplied onboard for the fisherman?

If you have a favorite rod and reel and lures you prefer to use please feel free in bringing it with you. I have rod and reels available for your use if needed and provide terminal tackle and lures. Life jackets are provided for your safety in accordance with the US Coast Guard rules and regulations. I will have ice chests for your food, drinks and to keep your fish cold during your trip.

I will supply 1 quart of live shrimp if you choose to use live bait to fish with or you can purchase other types of live bait at the marina. If live bait is around the bay area I will catch additional bait as needed. I have two built-in live wells on the boat with fresh water circulation systems to keep the bait alive during your trip.

What should I bring along?

You will need to bring adequate clothing to keep you warm during cold months or to screen you from the sun during the summer. I suggest you wear light colored clothing during the summer to help reflect the sun. A hat will help to protect your head from the sun and you will need sunscreen if you are sensitive to the sunlight and to prevent sunburn. Please wear slip resistant boating shoes or tennis shoes with light colored soles on the boat.

If you prefer to wade fish you will need to have a personal fish net, wading belt with a stringer and wading booties or an extra pair of shoes to wear during your trip home. Full length pants are most beneficial for wade fishing to help protect your legs. During cool weather months you should bring your own chest waders.

If you would like to take pictures during the day or of your catch please bring your own camera. You will see many interesting birds and habitat that you can capture on film.

Bring along an ice chest that you can keep in your vehicle during the day to take your catch home.

You will need to bring along food and drinks that you prefer have during your trip. I will have ice and an ice chest to store them on the boat. Food and drinks can be provided for an extra charge. If you would like me to provide breakfast and/or lunch for your party. Please inform me when you book your trip or at least two days prior to your scheduled trip if you want me to provide food and drinks.

Who will clean the fish that is brought in?

I will personally clean your catch at the dock when we return from your trip. Please tell me when we return if you want the fish cut into fillets or just have the abdomens cleaned out.

I will bag your fish in plastic NSF approved zip lock bags for your trip home. You can use the left over ice onboard to keep them chilled or purchase fresh ice from the bait camp.

What time should I be at the dock?

I prefer to leave the dock at dawn or the crack of daylight to give you the maximum fishing time possible if you are taking a morning or full day trip. You should arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled fishing trip to have enough time to load your gear on the boat and purchase any drinks or snacks you may have forgotten from the bait camp.

Do we need a valid fishing license?

Fishing licenses and a saltwater stamp are required by the State of Texas to fish in the coastal waters unless you are below age of 17 or 65 years of age or older. Also there are other exceptions to having a license. For information on what type of license you need and the cost you can go to the Texas Parks and Wildlife site by clicking "HERE"

What type of fishing will we do?

I will cater your trip to target what ever type of fish your prefer. Normally we catch Speckled Trout, Redfish and Flounders. We can target Tarpon during the Tarpon season and other migratory fish when they are in the area.

I will fish anchored from the boat, wade fish or drift fish over reefs, around cuts at the jetties or the near shore waters off the beach when the weather permits. Just let me know if you have a preference so I can custom tailor a trip to your liking.

If I bring my family, how old must the children be?

Children must be a minimum of 10 years old. I have found that children ten and older will understand and enjoy fishing much more than the younger ones and the parents will have a better time fishing themselves.

How are your deposits handled?

A deposit of $100.00 is required to hold your reservation for the day or days you request. Please mail a check to Capt. Larry Allen,  P.O. Box 1841, Crystal Beach, TX. 77650-1841. In the near future I will set up PayPal for your convenience.

Deposits are non-refundable. If you choose to cancel the trip and not reschedule; the deposit will not be refunded because I held that date especially for you and your party.  If you can not make the trip I will do my best to reschedule you to fish or bird watch for a date that is convenient for you and your party.

Trips cancelled due to weather or mechanical problems will be rescheduled to an open date that you prefer. However, I do not anticipate any mechanical problems since my boat and engine is very new and it is kept in top working order to serve my clients.

If a deposit is not received 10 days prior to your trip your reservation will be cancelled and open for booking unless prior agreements are made with me.

Do you offer tournament guided trips?

Yes. I love to fish tournaments and will tailor your trip to suit your needs if you want to fish one day or multiple day tournament. Please call for rates for tournament fishing trips.
